In the end, the student will acquire proficiency with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA)s for the purpose of creating prototypes or products for a variety of applications.

Industrial Power Electronic

This course provides knowledge in analyzing and designing power electronics systems such as rectifiers, converters, inverters, switched-mode power supplies, and resonant converters. An advanced approach such as MPPT (with an algorithm) is also introduced in the course. A design case using CAD/EDA tools such as MATLAB or PSIM will be conducted in this course.

Advanced CMOS Analog and Mixed-Signal Circuit

This course is designed to provide the knowledge in analysis of analog circuit design such as current source circuits, amplifier circuits, operational amplifier circuits, applications of amplifier and operational amplifier circuits and mixed-signal circuits. A design case such hybrid DAC will be used as example of the analog ic design. CAD/EDA tool such as Spectre/LTSpice will be used in this course. A mini project will be conducted by the students. At the end of the course, students would gain the skill of advanced analog IC design.

Mechatronics System Design

The course aims to expose you to mechatronic system design, with emphasis on the Internet of Things (IoT) applications. This is a 100% project-based course. You will find a gradual increase in hands-on activities as you progress through the various units. You will also have a chance to learn about project report writing. At the end of this course, you will be able to complete the relevant projects. Through hands-on projects, you will be able to appreciate and contribute towards Industry 4.0 applications in your own work.

Internet of Things Technology

This course focuses on the existing and potential applications of the Internet of Things (IoT). Standards, protocols, and application stacks for IoT will be introduced. Access to the IoT devices via Internet Gateways and related security issues will be studied. Data Analytics, Data Management and Privacy Issues of IoT will be covered. Students will also be briefly exposed to energy management issues for IoT. Practical exposure to IoT devices and software will be provided via assignments and projects.

Entry Requirements

(1) Regular Entry

  • Recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 AND
  • For International students, TOEFL score of 500 OR IELTS score of 5.0 OR its equivalent.  If a student does not meet this requirement, HEPs must offer English proficiency courses to ensure that the student’s proficiency is sufficient to meet the needs of the programme. This is normally conducted through an assessment process*.

Note:

  • When candidates with a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Technology degree or their equivalents (non-engineering or engineering technology) are admitted, prerequisite modules in Engineering and Engineering Technology must be offered to adequately prepare them for their advanced study. Degree holders with CGPA above 2.0 but less than 2.5 may be admitted, subject to a rigorous internal assessment process.

(2) Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) provides an opportunity for individuals with working experience but lack of formal academic qualifications to pursue their tertiary studies.  APEL involves the identification, documentation and assessment of prior experiential learning to determine the extent to which an individual has achieved the desired learning outcomes, for access to a programme of study.

Applicants should comply with the following admission criteria stipulated by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA):

  • APEL (A): The candidate must be a Malaysian citizen who is at least 30 years of age in the year of application and possesses relevant work experience. The candidate must have at least an STPM or diploma qualification, and pass the APEL evaluation assessment.
