Entry Requirements

Regular:

  1. A master’s degree in the field or related fields accepted by the Higher Education Providers (HEP) Senate;
  2. Other qualifications equivalent to a master’s degree recognized by the Government of Malaysia.

iii.  Candidates without a related qualification in the field/s or working experience in the relevant fields must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the HEP.

Bachelor’s degree with the following conditions:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with first-class (Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.67 or higher) or its equivalent from an academic or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme; undergo internal assessment; and any other requirements of the higher education providers (HEP).

Bachelor’s Degree candidates who are registered for Master’s Degree programmes may apply to convert to the Doctoral Degree programmes subjected to the following conditions

  1. within one year for full time and within two years for part-time candidates;
  2. having shown competency and capability in conducting research at doctorallevel through rigorous internal evaluation by the HEP; and

vii.  approval of the HEP Senate.

Note: Candidates registered for Master’s Degrees may opt to convert their registration after a year to the doctoral Degree, subject to approval by the postgraduate committee of the HEPs

Note: For International students, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 500 or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.0 or its equivalent. If a student does not meet this requirement, higher education providers (HEPs) must offer English proficiency courses to ensure that the student’s proficiency is sufficient to meet the needs of the programme. This is normally conducted through an assessment process.

APEL Entry: Turning Experience into Credentials

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) provides an opportunity for individuals with working experience but lack of formal academic qualifications to pursue their tertiary studies. APEL involves the identification, documentation and assessment of prior experiential learning to determine the extent to which an individual has achieved the desired learning outcomes, for access to a programme of study.

Applicants should comply with the following admission criteria stipulated by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA):

The candidate should be:

  • The applicant shall be 35 years of age in the year of application with at least Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications (or those with higher qualifications, e.g., Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma) and must possess at least 5 years of relevant work experience after completion of the Bachelor’s degree programme.
  • Pass the APEL.A assessment for Doctoral Degree level.
