Wawasan Open University (WOU) continues to expand its outreach initiative as part of its commitment to helping young Malaysians make informed choices about their future. With higher education pathways becoming increasingly diverse and competitive, WOU academics are engaging with schools as part of a strategic effort to provide students with clear, practical guidance for planning their next steps after Form 6.

In line with this, Dr Lalitha Ramasamy, Senior Lecturer from WOU’s School of Business and Administration (SBA), was invited by the Methodist Boys’ School [SMK (L) Methodist] to share insights on “Pathway to Higher Education” on 19 November 2025. The session brought together 35 Form 6 students who are at a crucial stage of deciding their academic and career direction.

Dr Lalitha focused on helping students make sense of the overwhelming array of choices after Form 6. Her talk covered the different study pathways available both locally and abroad, highlighting the strengths, challenges, and suitability of each option based on students’ goals and circumstances.

She also addressed several common areas of uncertainty faced by Form 6 students, including how programme prerequisites work and how to align personal interests with emerging employability trends. In addition, her presentation explored popular programmes expected to remain in high demand over the next decade, giving students a clearer sense of where future opportunities are likely to grow.

Dr Lalitha also walked the students through practical considerations for financing their studies, including scholarship avenues and financial aid options—ensuring they left with a grounded understanding of the support realistically available to them.

Supporting the session was Eric Oo, Senior Student Recruitment Specialist, who offered additional insights into WOU’s flexible learning model and how alternative pathways can benefit students with varying aspirations.

By the end of the talk, the students had a clearer sense of direction and a stronger grasp of how to align their interests, strengths, and resources with the right educational pathway. The session successfully provided them with practical, actionable knowledge—and ultimately inspired them to make more informed decisions about their higher education journey.
