The University welcomed more than 800 students today who had enrolled to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate programmes via open distance learning (ODL) in the January 2016 intake.
The orientation was simultaneously organised by the Regional Centres of Penang (PGRC), Ipoh (IPRC), Kuala Lumpur (KLRC), Kuching (KCRC) and Johor Bahru (JBRC) to acquaint students with WOU staff, tutors, the facilities and services through various interactive activities.
The students were briefed on the ODL model and studying techniques by the respective academic representatives from the main campus.
They were Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic-ODL) Prof Madhulika Kaushik for Penang; School of Foundation & Liberal Studies (SFLS) Deputy Dean Jasmine Emmanuel for Ipoh; School of Business & Administration (SBA) Deputy Dean Prakash V Arumugam for Kuala Lumpur; School of Science & Technology Dean Associate Prof Dr Wendy Bong Chin Wei for Kuching; and School of Education, Languages and Communications (SELC) Dean Prof Santhiram Raman for Johor Bahru.
The orientation served as a platform to recognise 66 students named to the Dean’s List for the January 2015 semester. They comprised 23 from KLRC, 16 PGRC, 15 JBRC, 9 KCRC, and 3 from IPRC.
WOU also took the opportunity to reward 9 Star Ambassadors who had introduced 3 or more friends to join WOU for studies under the Friends and Family Programme, with 4 from PGRC, 2 KLRC and one each from IPRC, KCRC and JBRC. They each received at least RM420 worth of fee rebate, shopping vouchers of RM200 and a certificate.
