About 700 out of the over 1,000 new students of Wawasan Open University enrolled for the July intake attended the nationwide orientation today organised by the five WOU Regional Centres.

NEW STUDENTS ATTEND ORIENTATION AT THE MAIN CAMPUS.
The freshmen became acquainted with WOU’s learning support services and staff, especially those from the Regional Centres of Penang (PGRC), Ipoh (IPRC), Johor Bahru (JBRC), Kuala Lumpur (KLRC), and Kuching (KCRC).
The new students were briefed on the University’s regulations and procedures, open distance learning (ODL) model, study skills, postgraduate programmes, and the learning management system WawasanLearn.

ORIENTATION IN IPOH.
The orientation also witnessed the presentation of certificates to students named to the Dean’s List for obtaining excellent academic results in the July 2012 semester, and the award of prizes to the Star Ambassadors for Friends and Family Programme and to the lucky draw winners from among the 1600 students who have used the online re-enrolment system (MyEnrolment).
Of the total 50 Dean’s List recipients, Penang And Kuala Lumpur recorded 17 each, Kuching 7, Johor 5, and Ipoh 4. Doing the honours in the certificate presentation were Prof Santhiram Raman, Dean, School of Education, Languages & Communications (main campus); Prof N V Narasimham, Dean, School of Business & Administration (Johor Bahru); Dr S Nagarajan, Acting Dean, School of Foundation & Liberal Studies (Kuching); Ishan Abeywardena, Deputy Dean, School of Science & Technology (Kuala Lumpur); and SBA Senior Lecturer Prakash Arumugam (Ipoh).

PROF SANTHIRAM PRESENTS THE DEAN’S LIST AWARD.
A total 7 Star Ambassadors who introduced three of more friends in the January 2013 intake under WOU’s Friends and Family Programme received shopping vouchers worth RM200, tuition fee rebates and a certificate of appreciation each. They were Wong Pui Leng and Tan Ray Son from PGRC; Mitchell Selvam and Daljit Kaur from KLRC; and Noor Anizah Abd Wahid, R. Pratheepa, and Lee Hiang Lee from JBRC.
At the main campus, 215 of the total 314 newly registered students turned up for the Orientation organised by PGRC. The oath-taking was led by Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Electronics student R. Saravanan, while Ms Tan Poow Suan delivered her student representative speech.

RECEIVING HIS MYENROLMENT PRIZE FROM PROF HO.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dato’ Dr Ho Sinn Chye was on hand to present prizes to the MyEnrolment winners. Students Thang Soon Kheng who’s doing his MBA and T. Harirajan, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education student, won an i-Pad while three other students of PGRC won iPod shuffles.
At the IPRC, it was a good start as a prospect turned up as early as 7.30am to register. A total 67 out of the total 104 new students turned up, along with three tutors and 6 student helpers. Student representative Cheong Swee Kim, currently doing his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Psychology, shared some pointers and later received his Dean’s List award from Prakash.

Subahsini Chandaran, who’s enrolled for Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Management at WOU, led the freshmen to recite the student pledge. IPRC had six MyEnrolment winners altogether; they were Ms Poh Boon Kuan (Galaxy S4); Yew Mun Kup (iPad Mini) and four others, Zaireen Shufiza Abu Bakar, Boon Hui Shi, Ong Kin Hoong, and Cheng Chun Foo who each received an iPod shuffle.

The Orientation at Southern College organised by JBRC witnessed 106 out of the total 144 students turning up. Student representative Khairi Samin, newly enrolled for Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Management at WOU, delivered a speech and led in the oath-taking ceremony as well. Prof Narasimham along with JBRC Director Ng Peng Long presented the Dean’s List award to the recipients, which included, S. Vanishree and Ms Tan Zhi Hui.

The Orientation at Menara PGRM organised by KLRC saw 239 out of the total 356 freshman attending the day-long activity. Student representative Mitchell Selvam, who is also a Star Ambassador, inspired the new students with his speech while the oath-taking was led by Muhammad Nurazman bin Mansuri, a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Psychology student.
Ishan, with the kind assistance of Regional Operations Director for Klang Valley Adrian Siew, presented the Dean’s List certificates, the star ambassador awards, as well as prizes to two MyEnrolment winners, Karthiga Ramasamy (iPad) and Lim Ching Ching (iPod Shuffle).
