WOU Vice Chancellor awarded Datukship

WOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Wong Tat Meng was conferred the Dato’ Setia Di Raja Kedah (DSDK) award – which carries the title Dato’ – during the final session of the investiture ceremony at Istana Anak Bukit Raja, Alor Setar.

On hand to witness the conferment was his wife Datin Dr Annie Foo.

Prof Wong was among the list of 44 recipients announced for the DSDK award in conjunction with the 84th birthday of the Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Sultan Badlishah on January 15.

He is a native of Kedah and an ‘old boy’ of the Sultan Abdul Hamid College, Alor Star, where he studied from 1957-1964 and obtained his Cambridge Higher School Certificate.

He also represented the Kedah state team in badminton while still at lower secondary school.

Prof Wong has over 35 years experience in both conventional and open distance learning universities in Malaysia and globally.

He is also the President of the 46-institution-membered Asian Association of Open Universities for a three-year term from 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2013.
