PAN (4TH FROM RIGHT) WITH THE NEW STUDENT COUNCIL COMMITTEE MEMBERS.
The new Council members were given a brief overview of their roles, responsibilities and the challenges they might face throughout their term of office by Vice Chancellor Prof Dato’ Dr Ho Sinn Chye.
Prof Ho said that the Student Council (SC) is a platform for representing and voicing students’ views, as well as academic and co-curricular interests. Their views and proposals can then be escalated to the University management for follow-up dialogue. He told them to consider the SC as a mini Parliament, adding that it gives “good training ground to speak one’s mind, debate issues, and along the way pick up social and public relation skills, to build character and other leadership attributes. All these will place you in good stead to face your working life in the foreseeable future.”

PROF HO EXPOUNDS ON THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL.
His advice to the new members helming the student body: “As elected members, you have to play an active role and provide good service. Help the University enrich the life and experience of the undergraduates in the campus by coming out with interesting activities, both academic and non-academic.”
