Wawasan Open University (WOU) was proud to lend its support for the 9th consecutive year as a gold sponsor of Relay for Life Penang 2016.
The University also sent a 20-member team this year comprising staff and its on-campus learning, full-time students to participate in the customary walkabout at the Youth Park today. They carried the WOU banner with the message ‚ÄėBecause Knowledge Saves Lives‚Äô and placards as they joined more than 2,000 people from all ages and walks of life to show their support for the fight against cancer.
The purpose of the ‚ÄėRelay for Life ‚Äď Fighting Cancer Together‚Äô campaign is to help spread four key messages about cancer, and they are: to practise a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of getting cancer; early detection and proper treatment saves lives; many cancers are treatable; and that you are not alone.
He urged more Penangites to join the Relay for Life campaign, and in concluding, declared, ‚ÄúForward with our fight against cancer!‚ÄĚ
Dr Afif then kicked off the Relay at 6.30pm by joining the cancer survivors in the first lap around the field.  Among those who took part in the walkabout were Pulau Tikus state assemblywoman Yap Soo Huey, corporate sponsors, organisations, individuals and other supporters.
Earlier on July 13th, WOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dato’ Dr Ho Sinn Chye had represented the University at a mock cheque presentation held in Komtar to honour all the major sponsors of the event.
