Wawasan Open University (WOU) lent its support as a silver sponsor by participating in the Relay for Life Penang 2013 which was held at the Youth Park on 15 June 2013.
A 15-member team led by Corporate Communications Manager, Rasidah Mion joined thousands of people from all ages and walks of life for the Relay for Life – ‘Fighting Cancer Together’.
The Penang Minister of Health, Welfare, Caring Society and Environment, Yang Berhormat Mr Phee Boon Poh officiated the opening and kicked off the Relay at 6.30pm by joining the cancer survivors in the walkabout around the field followed by cancer patients, supporters, volunteers, sponsors, organisations and individuals.
The 16-hour Relay symbolised the on-going fight against cancer, and the journey of a cancer survivor from diagnosis to successful recovery.
WOU team proudly held WOU banner with prevention message ‘Because Knowledge Saves Lives’ and placards as they joined in the walkabout with other teams to promote cancer awareness.
The Relay gathered Penangites to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who have lost loved ones and to join in the fight against cancer.
The University, in line with its commitment to corporate social responsibility, lends its support to this annual event organised by the National Cancer Society of Malaysia Penang Branch and Penang Hospice Society.
