WOU holds first ever ‘Revolution’ Learning Carnival

The ‘WOU Revolution!’ turned the otherwise quiet WOU Main Campus into a hive of activity for the learning pleasure and pure fun of visitors.

The first of its kind learning carnival, themed ‘WOU Revolution – Your World. Your Classroom.’ was organised by WOU, with the support of CIMB Bank as the main sponsor and Malaysian Mensa Society as their intellectual partner. The other sponsors were Pacific West, Hotlink, FTZ ASiA.net, Grolier, and the Employees Provident Fund.

Slightly more than 1,000 people – the public, WOU staff and students, and those from non-governmental organisations, the corporate sector and educational institutions – attended the event.

Though the event had a slow start when the doors opened at 9am, but soon the various offerings at the booths, tutorial rooms and the theatres drew a steady stream of visitors. Many had fun participating in the paintball target shooting competition, cyber gaming team tournament, Robert Kiyosaki’s cashflow game, and in the jewellery-making and food art workshops. The workshop participants got to take home beautiful jewellery and wonderfully-carved watermelons and honeydews.

A few sporting staff took part in the games organised by the Human Resources Department as the learning carnival was also a family day for the WOU community.

The climax of the carnival was the prize-giving for WOU’s Post@Postcard Contest which was officiated by Vice Chancellor Tan Sri Emeritus Professor Gajaraj Dhanarajan. In his address, he said that WOU as ‘the people’s university’ is “always on the lookout for innovative ways to promote the university and serve to bring the community closer.” Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Wong Tat Meng gave out lucky draw prizes for visitors to the carnival.
