WOU forges ties with Birmingham City University

Wawasan Open University stepped up collaborative efforts with Birmingham City University after hosting a visit by two of its senior academics.

The distinguished academicians from Birmingham City University were Chairman and Pro Chancellor Paul Sabapathy, and Director of International Office Cheryl Badhams.

PAUL SABAPATHY GIVES HIS PRESENTATION.

They met up with WOU Vice Chancellor Tan Sri Emeritus Professor Gajaraj Dhanarajan, Deputy Vice Chancellors, and Deans to discuss possible areas of collaboration in the offering of educational programmes.

Also present were Dato’ Dr Leong Yueh Kwong, Director of the Socio-Economic and Environmental Research Institute (SERI); Ian Kerr, retired principal of the International School of Penang; Dr Tan Kok Eng, senior lecturer of School of Educational Studies, Universiti Sains Malaysia; Dato’ EK Chong, President and Chief Executive Officer of Disted-Stamford College; Chow Chee Keong, Director of The Learning Garden; Chow Seok Hong, Head of School of Business Management, PTPTL College and WOU senior management personnel.

“The purpose today is to have discussions on potential areas of collaboration as we share similar missions,” said Paul during his presentation.

Born in Chennai, India, Paul has been at the helm of Birmingham City University (formerly University of Central England, Birmingham) since 2002, earning the distinction of being the first non-white Chairman of a British University. He is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant and has a MSc in Industrial Administration from Aston University in Birmingham.

He is currently also the Chairman of Birmingham East and North Primary Care Trust, one of the best and largest Primary Care Trusts in the country, with a budget of over £1500 million.
