WOU appoints East West College as Strategic Academic Partner

Wawasan Open University signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with East West College in Seremban to mark the appointment of the college as a strategic academic partner (SAP) of the university.

Under the MoA, East West College will actively assist the Kuala Lumpur Regional Office (KLRO) in its efforts to reach out and register working adults especially in the Melaka and Negeri Sembilan region for studies at WOU.

A formal MoA signing ceremony was held at the college premises, with WOU represented by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Wong Tat Meng and East West College by Chief Executive Officer Prof Dato’ Dr. Haji Abdul Murad Ahmad.

In his speech, Prof Wong said, “This event marks the beginning of a new initiative of WOU to bring our brand of quality higher education that is flexible and affordable to   even more working Malaysians through the implementation of a Strategic Academic Partnership with other institutions of higher learning. This partnership will see us working together to complement the efforts of each other to meet the increasingly diversified educational needs of the working adults of the country.”

Meanwhile Prof Dato’ Haji Abdul Murad stated that the MoA will make it possible for more working adults to “further their studies through a unique distance learning approach” and gain tertiary qualifications.

East West College has been tasked to represent and support WOU by providing counselling advice to prospective students so as to facilitate their enrolment. Through this joint collaboration, the university therefore aims to seek out a larger segment of the Malaysian workforce and give them the opportunity to pursue higher learning.

The MoA – which took effect on 1 May 2010 – will cover the promotion of all programmes offered at the University as well as new programmes introduced in the future.

The KLRO is also supported by another SAP located in Kepong, that is, the Metro Prime International College.  Appointment of other SAPs are being made to support WOU’s regional offices nationwide.
