Welcoming new students!

NEW STUDENTS AT THE MAIN CAMPUS ATTENDING ORIENTATION

WOU welcomed about 700 new students for its July 2015 intake. Orientation sessions were held simultaneously today, at the Regional Centres in Penang (PGRC), Kuching (KCRC), Ipoh (IPRC), Kuala Lumpur (KCRC) and Johor Bahru (JBRC).

The new students were warmly welcomed by the Directors of the Regional Centres, and in Kuala Lumpur they were greeted by Klang Valley Regional Operations Director Adrian Siew.

The freshmen were briefed on the University’s open distance learning (ODL) model and support services, and participated in a hands-on exercise in accessing the learning management system, WawasanLearn, and the library resources. They also joined a treasure hunt and carried out quizzes to acquaint themselves with the RC staff and facilities.

The academics explained the ODL model and presented certificates to the high achievers named to the Dean’s List for their excellent academic results in the July 2014 semester. Of the total 77 students, 28 were from KLRC, 27 from PGRC, 11 from JBRC, six from KCRC and five from IPRC.

The University also recognised nine star student ambassadors with a RM200 gift voucher and certificate, for referring three or more contacts to study at WOU in the January/April 2015 intake. They received their rewards from the RC Directors.

STUDENTS TAKE THE OATH AT THE MAIN CAMPUS

As the freshmen embarked on their academic journey at WOU, they recited the students’ pledge at the beginning of the orientation session. At the main campus, Mohammad Ikhwan Mahadzir, who had enrolled in Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, led them in this.

Elsewhere, the students who led the oath-taking were Human Resources degree freshman Sharon Sanggan Anggat (KCRC), Management with Psychology students Basant Singh Surinderpal Singh and Melvin Felix Xavier (IPRC), and Ashton Arun Packiasingh Raja Solomon (KLRC), who had enrolled in Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Computer Systems and Networks programme.

WOU ALUMNI SYLVIA CHIA MOTIVATES THE STUDENTS

Each Regional Centre also brought in a WOU alumnus to talk about ‘Student Life at WOU’. Among them was Sylvia Chia Yee Ching, a CeMBA graduate, who talked at KCRC about how she managed her studies, despite holding a full-time job and being mother to three young kids, while Wong Kam Fatt, a WOU Management graduate who is currently pursuing a CeMBA at WOU, shared his learning experiences with the IPRC students.
