ACADEMICS AND FRESHMEN ATTEND THE ORIENTATION.
These valuable pointers to “groom yourself to be successful students at WOU” were presented by Vice Chancellor Prof Dato’ Dr Ho Sinn Chye. He was welcoming the new on-campus learning (OCL) full-time students during the Orientation held at the main campus today.
Prof Ho encouraged the freshmen to know, plan and to be committed to their study progression so that they land that dream job after graduation. He advised that they dedicate themselves to seeking knowledge and soft skills, and build up a good command of English so that they will outshine others in future job interviews.
PROF HO OFFERS SOME USEFUL POINTERS TO SUCCEED AS A STUDENT.
He also stressed the need to have good time management, being able to juggle and have ample time for study and leisure. “When you work, the ability to multi-task is a necessary prerequisite. So use the university as testing ground to practice multi-tasking.”
He continued, “Motivate yourself to complete assignments on time and do them well. Always think of what you want to do next and define your goals. Do not be afraid to explore new ground. Finally, be a team player, working with your classmates to form study groups.”

Meanwhile Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Madhulika Kaushik told the new students to improve their communication skills, whether interactive, open, vocal or written, and use their time at the university to create and follow their dreams, stressing, “Dream big!”, and strive towards achieving that dream.
She encouraged the students to acquaint themselves with the university facilities, systems and the teachers, and to “be curious, be inquisitive. Learn to ask questions, and become more interactive and engaging in your learning.”
Earlier Penang Regional Centre director Teh Kim Kow, in his opening remarks, shared that WOU has more than 200 OCL students to date, and that the first batch will be graduating in this year’s convocation.
CHEW CHIN QUAN RECEIVES THE DEAN’S LIST AWARD FROM PROF HO.
Eleven OCL students who had excelled in their studies in the September 2015 semester were named to the Dean’s List. Five of them were present to receive their awards from Prof Ho during the orientation ceremony.
