Networking session boosts ties between WOU and JCI

The positive ties between Junior Chamber International (JCI) Malaysia and Wawasan Open University (WOU) were further strengthened during a recent networking session held at the main campus. The university, led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Wong Tat Meng, hosted the JCI chapters in Penang to a luncheon meeting at the Homestead.

About 20 JCI representatives in Penang including the past national presidents of JCI Malaysia, presidents and senior office bearers attended the function.

In his presentation, Prof Wong gave an in-depth talk into the history of WOU, outlining its vision to be a vibrant learning community and details of an educational journey with WOU’s open distance learning system. He even shared light-hearted snippets about WOU’s students, often drawing laughter from the floor.

This was followed by a presentation by Director of Regional Operations Chong Kong Hoong on strategic partnership opportunities between WOU and JCI chapters in Penang.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Operations) Dr Seah Soo Aun reiterated the call for a more solid partnership between WOU and JCI, through the implementation of the WOU Valued Partner Programme (VPP) in their respective chapters. Through the VPP, JCI chapters will play a key role to introduce and recruit their members into WOU’s academic programmes, while enjoying the benefits accorded to them as a Valued Partner.

On 8 January 2011, WOU signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with JCI Malaysia to spearhead collaborative efforts in bringing educational opportunities to JCI members, their families and friends.

The networking session also provided opportunities for WOU to explore other ideas for possible collaborations with JCI. The event culminated in a campus tour of Homestead and the Albukhary building conducted by GSA.

Also present were Senior Marcom Manager Lillie See, Marketing Manager Poh Leong Tat and the Marcom team.
