The following is a list of MPU courses offered by the Centre:
(This structure is for students who have enrolled in WOU ¬†from January 2014 semester until the September 2021 semester.)
1. Course Code/Name of Course: ¬†MPU3113/03 Hubungan Etnik
The course focuses on the basic concepts of culture and ethnic relations with special attention to the latter‚Äôs development in Malaysia. It is intended to give students a broad understanding of race relations in society. As such the basic objective of this course is to explore the ways in which racial, ethnic experiences, relations have emerged and developed over time.
2. Course Code/Name of Course: MPU3143/03 Bahasa Melayu Komunikasi 2
This course trains international students to communicate in basic daily life situations using the Malay language.¬† Students will be taught ¬†how to write and speak in simple Malay.¬† Teaching and learning will be implemented in the form of lectures, tutorials, assignments and student learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. At the end of this course, students are expected to be able to effectively communicate both orally and in written forms using simple sentences.
3. Course Code/Name of Course: MPU3123/03 Tamadun Islam dan Tamadun Asia
This course provides a broad introduction to the rich variety of Islamic and Asian Civillisations. It will offer insight into the civillisational knowledge, concepts, thought patterns, culture, values, society and achievements of these civilizations. The course also discusses contemporary and future issues on civilisational dialogue. With the exposure to cultural issues and civilization in Malaysia, it is hoped that students will have a greater awareness of issues that can contribute towards mutual respect and harmony in the plural society of Malaysia
4. Course Code/Name of Course: MPU3173/03 Malaysian Studies 3
This course introduces students to Malaysian history, tracing from the early Malay kingdoms to the formation of Malaysia. It also discusses the main provisions of the Federal Constitution, besides elaborating on Malaysia‚Äôs parliamentary democracy, the election process and system of government. It will provide an understanding of Malaysia‚Äôs plural society, ethnic relations and approaches to enhance national integration and unity. Further, it discusses the national development philosophy and the main social and economic policies to promote growth and prosperity.
5. Course Code/Name of Course: MPU3213/03 Bahasa Kebangsaan A
This course aims to increase students‚Äô proficiency and mastery of the Malay language. The emphasis of this course is on expressing thoughts and ideas and communicating effectively in both formal and informal settings. This course also tests the students‚Äô sensitivity to listening and writing skills at the workplace.
6. Course Code/Name of Course: MPU3223/03 Decision Making Skills
This course enables the students to learn and gain decision-making skills by closely examining internal factors, the world of work, and decision-making styles and strategies. This course provides students with the knowledge that career and lifelong decision-making process is empowering and skills learned in the course can be valuable throughout life as individuals encounter crossroads that may prompt life and career changes.
7. Course Code/Name of Course: MPU3313/03 Comparative Religions
Religion is one of the primary disciplines for investigating the boundary questions of life and death, of love and hate, which characterise the human condition.¬† This course provides the opportunity to understand, with depth and nuance, the many beliefs and rituals that move persons to appreciate the alternative world of the religious reality. It is also academically enriching because it is a transdisciplinary mode of inquiry that engenders deep intercultural literacy.
8. Course Code/Name of Course: MPU3343/03 Family and Society
This course enables the students to study of the relationship between the child, the family, the community and early childhood, and community lifestyles, child abuse and current issues. This course provides students with the knowledge to summarize ways to communicate and interact with parents and families.
9. Course Code/Name of Course: MPU3333/03 Human Rights
This course provides students the understanding of the principles and institutions of international human rights practices, including their origins, assumptions, contents, limits and potential. The course will focus on international and Malaysian human rights practices from legal as well as philosophical, social and political perspectives. It equips the student with the basic skills and knowledge necessary to understand how human rights can be enforced domestically through available legal and administrative mechanisms.
10. Course Code/Name of Course: MPU3412/02 Co-Curriculum
This course engages students in group discussions, planning and executing planned community service and social/charity activities. Leadership, team work and communication are the focus areas of personal development.
