July 2008 Students Orientation

The July 2008 Student Orientation was held simultaneously at WOU’s main campus in Penang, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru on Sunday, 20 July 2008. The Kota Bharu Regional Office held their orientation session earlier on Friday, 18 July 2008.

TAKING THE STUDENTS PLEDGE.

In Penang, students started streaming in as early as 8 am to register and collect goodie bags of WOU pens, t-shirts, bookmarks, and Orientation CDs.

Students paid rapt attention as Director of Penang RO, K. Manoharan delivered his speech to welcome the new batch of students. In his address, chairman of the Penang Student Council, Calvin Yeoh spoke briefly of his experience studying at WOU since January 2007, earning the applause of those present.

A pre-recorded speech by the VC Tan Sri Raj was shown on the screen. Students were then invited to recite the Ikrar Mahasiswa (Student Oath) led by Bachelor of Technology in Electronics (Hons) student Mohd Johari bin Ishak.

Dean of the Centre for Graduate Studies, Prof Madhulika Kaushik proceeded to brief the students on the ODL model adopted by WOU. This was followed by a briefing on WOU regulations and procedures by Mr Mano.

After a short break, more briefing sessions followed in which students were introduced to WOU’s learning support such as IT facilities, WawasanLearn portal, online submissions of assignments and the digital library access.

A pleasant surprise was in store for students in Penang as the Happy Cruisers from Chinese radio station, 988fm, turned up during lunch time. Goodies were given to enthusiastic participants who joined in the fun trivia session.

Cruisers from English radio station, Red.fm entertained the city folks during their stop in the vicinity of the Kuala Lumpur RO.

We hope that with the continued support and assistance rendered, our students will persevere along their journey of education until graduation.
