Celebrities call for child sponsors through World Vision

Four Malaysian celebrities touched the hearts of more than 150 guests present at Wawasan Open University as they shared their experiences as child sponsors of the World Vision International Child Sponsorship Programme.

Award-winning actress and World Vision’s Ambassador Lee Sinje, who has visited World Vision projects in Kenya and Mongolia, related how children’s lives in the two nations are being transformed.

“Giving love and hope gives us a sense of gratitude for everything that we have. I want these children to grow healthily and have dreams of their own,” she said.

The international artiste from Kedah was joined by Deborah Priya Henry (former Miss Malaysia/Miss World) who is a World Vision Children’s Rights Advocate, MixFM announcer Roshan Narayan and MYFM announcer Royce Tan. All four are child sponsors themselves, with Lee sharing her blessings by sponsoring nine children.

“There is a personal touch to it – I get Christmas cards, Chinese New Year cards, pictures from my sponsor children! And it’s a joy to be in touch with them always, so you know they are doing well,” said Deborah, who sponsors three children.

The celebrities are on a mission to help World Vision Malaysia find sponsors for 3,000 children from poor communities in Vietnam, China, India, Mongolia, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand and Lebanon by March 31st.

“We want to give these children hope. By reaching out to the community as a whole – their parents and the local village where the children live in, we are actually creating a sustainable environment for these children to live and grow well in. A former Miss Thailand who was a sponsored child herself was a shining example of how lives can be transformed when you share your blessings with the less fortunate,” said World Vision CEO, Liew Tong Ngan.

It would cost you RM50 a month – or RM600 a year – to sponsor a child from any of the communities that World Vision Malaysia supports. Those interested can contact Ms Ayn Pereira at 03-7880 6414 or ayn_pereira@wvi.org or check out the website at www.worldvision.com.my for details.
