2nd Meeting of School of Science & Technology’s Advisory Peer Group

Members of the School of Science and Technology (SST)’s Advisory Peer Group (APG) met with the School’s academicians for the second time at the University’s headquarters. The meeting was chaired by WOU’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Wong Tat Meng.

Other than reviewing the progress of existing Science and Technology programmes, the group also discussed the School’s five-year plan for 2008 to 2012.

On being told the statistics on WOU’s inaugural student intake for the SST programmes, Toray Industries Malaysia Sdn Bhd Executive Director Dato’ Lee Ow Kin, who is also anAPG member, said the enrolment figures were “fantastic”.  

Dr Ngo Chek Ling, the Director at Corentix Technology, also complimented WOU on its intake.

During a discussion of the School’s plans, Kulim Technology Park’s Group Chief Executive Director Dato’ Ahmad Shukry Tajuddin expressed his desire to see more programmes offered to meet the needs of high-tech industries, especially programmes related to emerging technologies.

Another APG member, Prof Ahmad Yusof, said that credit transfers or credit exemptions will offer flexibility to WOU students in planning their courses of study. Responding to this suggestion, WOU’s Registrar Yeong Sik Kheong said that WOU is already heading in this direction.

The APG members, comprising a select group of academicians and industry experts, meet annually to review WOU’s programmes and assess their relevance to the local environment and the nation’s needs.

During the meeting, APG members provide comments, feedback and propose appropriate changes to the programme’s structure, goals and contents.
