1) Senior Lecturers and Lecturers (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

The appointees will be responsible for teaching, developing and coordinating the delivery of courses in one of the following areas and undertake research and publications in relevant areas.

> School of Business and Administration

> School of Science and Technology

ii) Mechatronic Engineering
iii) Electrical and Electronics

The Job:

  • Oversight, delivery, coordination and development of learning materials for undergraduate and postgraduate courses (Open Distance Learning, Online Learning and classroom lecture) in the prescribed fields within the School.

  • Setting of assignments and examination papers and marking schemes.

  • Recruitment, training, management and evaluation of part-time tutors.

  • Liaising and working with external examiners, writers and assessors of learning course materials.

  • Working with other support units of the University including the Registry, Library, Educational Technology and Publishing Unit in the delivery of learning and teaching.

  • Assisting the School in developing new academic programmes, enhancing delivery and learning, facilitate seminars and other projects relevant to WOU.

Requirements:

  • A minimum Master’s degree and preferably a PhD from an accredited University.

  • Excellent command of English and competency in Bahasa Malaysia.

  • Experience in Open Distance Learning programmes and/or a record of research and publications would be an added advantage.

Academic Support Position

1) Manager - Student Engagement (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

 Responsibilities:

  • Ensure provision of an equitable educational experience for the diverse students attending WOU, ensuring students experience a holistic approach to student engagement.

  • Establish annual and long-term targets for improved student retention through student engagement activities.

  • Collect and analyse data in developing progress reports and evaluations for making data-guided decisions and recommendations regarding the various student engagement programmes and services.

  • Build relationship with students and act on feedback from students.

  • Design, develop and implement activities that directly contribute to student retention such as learning clinics and short training programmes and courses to be delivered in the Regional Centre for students and tutors, respectively.

  • Assist in and support marketing activities for the region where necessary.

  • Support and contribute to the development for the WOU Student Alumni community through engagement activities.

  • Liaise with stakeholders to deliver an excellent experience throughout the student journey including providing accurate information and guidance.

  • Manage all communication channels effectively including phone, email, social media and others, while focusing on high quality of customer service.

  • Provide in-person counselling support at events and activities representing the institution when required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Business Management / Communication or Marketing.

  • Strong leadership skills including experience in leading teams, delegating, resource management, change management and conflict management in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to perform well under pressure.

  • At least 5 years work experience in a people management position.

  • High level of computer and Internet competency, including the ability to use databases and data analytics.

  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to perform various tasks in succession. 

  • Highly proficient in verbal and written communication in English and Malay including presentations.

  • Able to read and write in Chinese is an added advantage.

2) Officer - Web Programmer (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  •  Design user interface and web layout using HTML/CSS practices.

  • Perform periodical tests and debugging to maximise program efficiency.

  • Suggest new features to improve program navigation and operation.

  • Provide support in website maintenance and enhancements.

  • Stay up-to date on emerging technologies.

  • Assist in other programming related duties and projects when assigned.

Requirements

  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's degree in computer related field or equivalent with emphasis in programming.

  • At least 3 years experience with strong proficiency in various programming languages, like PHP and Javascript.

  • Familiarity working with HTML/CSS.

  • Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming and we application development.

  • A good team player and able to work independently and under pressure. Strong analytical, problem solving and solution oriented abilities.

  • Excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills.

  • Can work well under pressure, and perform good quality work within limited time constraint.

Non-Academic Position
 


1) Finance Senior Manager (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Group Financial Controller.

  • Responsible for the financial and accounting related matters of the Institution and its subsidiaries (Group).

  • Prepare monthly management financial statements of the Group in accordance with established accounting standards and Companies Act 2016.

  • Manage the Group treasury function.

  • Assist in tax planning and ensure timely tax submission.

  • Direct, manage the preparation and monitoring of the Group’s annual budget and strategic plans.

  • Liaise with the external auditors to ensure the Group statutory accounts are completed within established deadlines.

  • Coordinate with relevant department to develop, implement and maintain standard operating procedures and its related IT systems.

  • Responsible for central purchasing and procurement policies and procedures.

  • Ensure all assets of the Group are fully accounted for and properly insured.

  • Have a good understanding of the relevant laws and regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Liaise with bankers, auditors, tax and other relevant government bodies.

 Requirements:

  • A qualified accountant and/or member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants and/or accounting degree.

  • At least 10 years experience in a senior finance position.

  • Sound knowledge of IT and ERP system.

  • Team player with the ability to lead development & implementation of system.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Self-motivated, committed and organised.

2) Officer / Executive, Marketing & Admissions - Regional Centre and Regional Support Centre

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the planning of leads generation activities.

  • Actively participate in leads generation and conversion activities.

  • Facilitate student admission as per university’s guidelines.

  • Provide student support services to all WOU students promptly and accurately.

  • Support the regional centre or regional support centres in achieving the given sales targets.

Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma or equivalent in Business Studies, Mass Communication, Finance or Accounting with minimum 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Applicants with telemarketing skill and experience will be an added advantage.

  • Able to work on weekends.

  • Working hours: 10 A.M. - 7 P.M. (Tuesday to Sunday where Monday is a rest day and there will be an off day between Tuesday to Friday depending on the duty roster arranged, "except" for Penang Regional Centre, Monday to Sunday, and there will be an rest /off day between Monday to Friday depending on the duty roster.)
