1) Dean for School of Business and Administration (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the development of the University’s policy in areas affecting education and research in collaboration with the relevant committees and working groups set up in the University.

  • To provide leadership and strategic direction in the planning, action taking, communication and decision making processes to develop, enhance and promote existing and new programmes.

  • To network with partner institutions from government, industry and business organisations for the purpose of developing and offering collaborative diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes.

  • To work with the Chancellery, Registry and other Schools to ensure consistency of quality in curriculum development and delivery of diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

  • To develop and promote a service oriented administration within the School of Business and Administration that will guide and direct its diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate students in their academic pursuits.

  • To mentor and provide the necessary guidance to academic staff of the School to enhance their course development and delivery skills as well as to encourage and help facilitate their research activities.

  • To provide academic advice to academic staff and students on issues related to programmes or courses.

Requirements:

  • Applicants should possess a PhD degree in a related field and have extensive academic and administrative experience at senior levels in higher education.

  • Previous experience in on-campus and open distance education would be an advantage as would a high level of oral and written competence in both English and Bahasa Malaysia*.

  • Evidence of effective academic leadership with demonstrated ability to lead and oversee the development of the School and to enhance their excellence in teaching and scholarship.

  • A proven track record of leadership in research and an established record of scholarly outputs in local and international journals.

  • A record of establishing mutually beneficial links with the community and the industries.

  • Experience in managing School as business unit would be an added advantage.

The Job:

  • Oversight, delivery, coordination and development of learning materials for undergraduate and postgraduate courses (Open Distance Learning, Online Learning and classroom lecture) in the prescribed fields within the School.

  • Setting of assignments and examination papers and marking schemes.

  • Recruitment, training, management and evaluation of part-time tutors.

  • Liaising and working with external examiners, writers and assessors of learning course materials.

  • Working with other support units of the University including the Registry, Library, Educational Technology and Publishing Unit in the delivery of learning and teaching.

  • Assisting the School in developing new academic programmes, enhancing delivery and learning, facilitate seminars and other projects relevant to WOU.

Requirements:

  • Minimum PhD in Psychology for School of Humanities and Social Sciences, PhD Education/ Early Childhood Education for School of Education, Languages and Communications from an accredited University.

  • A minimum Master’s degree and preferably a PhD from an accredited University in other relevant discipline.

  • Excellent command of English and competency in Bahasa Malaysia.

  • Experience in Teacher Education and teaching, specialisation in early childhood education/ Education Management (*for School of Education, Languages and Communications).

  • Experience in Open Distance Learning programmes and/or a record of research and publications would be an added advantage.

Academic Support Position

1) Manager - Student Engagement (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

 Responsibilities:

  • Ensure provision of an equitable educational experience for the diverse students attending WOU, ensuring students experience a holistic approach to student engagement.

  • Establish annual and long-term targets for improved student retention through student engagement activities.

  • Collect and analyse data in developing progress reports and evaluations for making data-guided decisions and recommendations regarding the various student engagement programmes and services.

  • Build relationship with students and act on feedback from students.

  • Design, develop and implement activities that directly contribute to student retention such as learning clinics and short training programmes and courses to be delivered in the Regional Centre for students and tutors, respectively.

  • Assist in and support marketing activities for the region where necessary.

  • Support and contribute to the development for the WOU Student Alumni community through engagement activities.

  • Liaise with stakeholders to deliver an excellent experience throughout the student journey including providing accurate information and guidance.

  • Manage all communication channels effectively including phone, email, social media and others, while focusing on high quality of customer service.

  • Provide in-person counselling support at events and activities representing the institution when required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Business Management / Communication or Marketing.

  • Strong leadership skills including experience in leading teams, delegating, resource management, change management and conflict management in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to perform well under pressure.

  • At least 5 years work experience in a people management position.

  • High level of computer and Internet competency, including the ability to use databases and data analytics.

  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to perform various tasks in succession. 

  • Highly proficient in verbal and written communication in English and Malay including presentations.

  • Able to read and write in Chinese is an added advantage.

2) Officer - Web Programmer (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  •  Design user interface and web layout using HTML/CSS practices.

  • Perform periodical tests and debugging to maximise program efficiency.

  • Suggest new features to improve program navigation and operation.

  • Provide support in website maintenance and enhancements.

Requirements

Non-Academic Position
 


1) Finance Senior Manager (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Group Financial Controller.

  • Responsible for the financial and accounting related matters of the Institution and its subsidiaries (Group).

  • Prepare monthly management financial statements of the Group in accordance with established accounting standards and Companies Act 2016.

  • Manage the Group treasury function.

  • Assist in tax planning and ensure timely tax submission.

  • Direct, manage the preparation and monitoring of the Group’s annual budget and strategic plans.

  • Liaise with the external auditors to ensure the Group statutory accounts are completed within established deadlines.

  • Coordinate with relevant department to develop, implement and maintain standard operating procedures and its related IT systems.

  • Responsible for central purchasing and procurement policies and procedures.

  • Ensure all assets of the Group are fully accounted for and properly insured.

  • Have a good understanding of the relevant laws and regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Liaise with bankers, auditors, tax and other relevant government bodies.

 Requirements:

  • A qualified accountant and/or member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants and/or accounting degree.

  • At least 10 years experience in a senior finance position.

2) Officer / Executive, Marketing & Admissions - Regional Centre and Regional Support Centre

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the planning of leads generation activities.

  • Actively participate in leads generation and conversion activities.

  • Facilitate student admission as per university’s guidelines.

  • Provide student support services to all WOU students promptly and accurately.

  • Support the regional centre or regional support centres in achieving the given sales targets.

Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma or equivalent in Business Studies, Mass Communication, Finance or Accounting with minimum 2 years of relevant experience.

2) Desktop Support Analyst (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, maintain, assist, assign, respond and track the University’s Helpdesk requests; analyse user problems, requests and questions; research solutions; provide explanations and solution to resolve computer issues and guide users with network sign-on procedures, email archiving procedures and new hardware/software.

  • Responsible for all desktop PC/Laptop systems and printers: install, maintain, implement and troubleshoot workstation software applications and hardware, configure and maintain user accounts on network and perform system relocation.

  • Assist infrastructure team in maintaining software and hardware inventory including ITS asset count and tagging, software and hardware usage, upgrade plan and proposal.

  • Responsible for all documentation related to all Help Desk procedures and software installations.

  • Assist infrastructure team in troubleshooting and resolving network connectivity issues (riser and data centre) including wireless controller/AP support, VPN, Active Directory, e-Directory and GroupWise.

Requirements

  • Candidate must possess at least Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent with at least 3 years relevant working experience in IT.

  • At least one year experience in handling of helpdesk support in platforms like Windows or LINUX and IT administrative support function.

  • MUST be able to work odd hours if the need arises.

  • Basic understanding of system, server and network connectivity.

  • Possess good analytical and basic problem solving skills.

  • A good team player and able to work independently and under pressure.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

3) Administrative Assistant - Information Technology Services (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day to day administrative support to IT department.

  • Manage and oversee IT stock and asset information.

  • Conduct yearly IT asset scrapping and monitoring of fix asset transfers between Headquarters and Regional Centres.

  • Conduct procurement for IT stock on a weekly/ monthly/ yearly basis.

  • Assist in organising and conducting tenders with the technical team and manage all documentations related to the tender such as invoice, delivery order and licensing.

  • Oversee and keep track of IT related contracts such as service and maintenance contracts, leasing contracts and so on.

  • Liaise with auditors and technical team during yearly audits.

  • Responsible in maintaining all IT documentations, filing and minute taking.

  • Perform any other ad hoc duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess at least a Diploma or equivalent in the relevant field with at least 1 year of related working experience.

  • Able to work long hours and during weekends if the need arises.

  • Possess some basic understanding and knowledge in Information Technology.
