1) Dean for School of Business and Administration (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the development of the University’s policy in areas affecting education and research in collaboration with the relevant committees and working groups set up in the University.
  • To provide leadership and strategic direction in the planning, action taking, communication and decision making processes to develop, enhance and promote existing and new programmes.
  • To network with partner institutions from government, industry and business organisations for the purpose of developing and offering collaborative diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes.
  • To work with the Chancellery, Registry and other Schools to ensure consistency of quality in curriculum development and delivery of diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • To develop and promote a service oriented administration within the School of Business and Administration that will guide and direct its diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate students in their academic pursuits.
  • To mentor and provide the necessary guidance to academic staff of the School to enhance their course development and delivery skills as well as to encourage and help facilitate their research activities.
  • To provide academic advice to academic staff and students on issues related to programmes or courses.
     

Requirements:

  • Applicants should possess a PhD degree in a related field and have extensive academic and administrative experience at senior levels in higher education.
  • Previous experience in on-campus and open distance education would be an advantage as would a high level of oral and written competence in both English and Bahasa Malaysia*.
  • Evidence of effective academic leadership with demonstrated ability to lead and oversee the development of the School and to enhance their excellence in teaching and scholarship.
  • A proven track record of leadership in research and an established record of scholarly outputs in local and international journals.
  • A record of establishing mutually beneficial links with the community and the industries.
  • Experience in managing School as business unit would be an added advantage.

The appointees will be responsible for teaching, developing and coordinating the delivery of courses in one of the following areas and undertake research and publications in relevant areas.

The Job:

  • Oversight, delivery, coordination and development of learning materials for undergraduate and postgraduate courses (Open Distance Learning, Online Learning and classroom lecture) in the prescribed fields within the School.
  • Setting of assignments and examination papers and marking schemes.
  • Recruitment, training, management and evaluation of part-time tutors.
  • Liaising and working with external examiners, writers and assessors of learning course materials.
  • Working with other support units of the University including the Registry, Library, Educational Technology and Publishing Unit in the delivery of learning and teaching.
  • Assisting the School in developing new academic programmes, enhancing delivery and learning, facilitate seminars and other projects relevant to WOU.

Requirements:

  • Minimum PhD in Psychology from an accredited University for School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • A minimum Master degree and preferably a PhD from an accredited University for School of Business and Administration.
  • Excellent command of English and competency in Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Experience in Teacher Education and teaching, specialisation in early childhood education {*for School of Education, Languages & Communications}.
  • Experience in Open Distance Learning programmes and/or a record of research and publications would be an added advantage.

Academic Support Position

1) Manager - Quality Assurance and External Relations (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  • Directly responsible for the coordination and management of all Quality Assurance (QA) functions of both the Online Distance Learning (ODL) and Face to Face full-time (F2F) delivery provisions of the University. 
  • Be actively involved in promoting specific programmes and serving as a training facility (in partnership with similar organisations) on QA.
  • Directing and coordinating the services for the secretariat of the Senate Committee on QA, Teaching and Learning (QATL). 
  • Provide leadership and facilitate in the development of quality assurance protocols and systems in line with internationally accepted norms.
  • Monitor and ensure the implementation of QA practices in all areas of activities in the University.
  •  Ensure compliance with conditions as laid down by regulatory bodies where appropriate.
  • Oversee the conduct and compilation of the evaluation of student performance data and development of ways to improve student performance in association with Educational Technology and the Schools.
  • Conduct on a periodical basis quality audit with a view towards strengthening the existing quality systems and practice.
  • Promote and establish collaborations with institutions locally and abroad.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree or equivalent qualifications from a recognised reputable institution.
  • Minimum 8 to 10 years related experience in a managerial position (preferably from the Higher Education Institution).
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal relationship skills and ability to work closely with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to carry out internal audits and other verification activities as well as ensure compliance to all aspects of Quality Assurance standards and benchmarks.
  • Good command of spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia.

4) Administrative Assistant - School of Science and Technology (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative and secretarial support to faculty and administrative staff, including office work flow, academic support, appointments, correspondences, budgets, data compilation and record control. In addition, you may perform duties that are sensitive and confidential in nature.
  • Set up and maintain various office files and records required for reference and efficient operation, maintaining confidentiality in the handling of WOU records.
  • Management of the day to day operations in respect of routine correspondences and external communications, telephone enquiries, control on the use of office equipments including photocopier and fax machine.
  • Undertaking such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Deans from time to time.

5) Library Assistant (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  • Open and close the library on weekends and evenings. Responsible for library security during its opening hours. Responds to alarms, report incidents and contacts relevant University officers in the event of an emergency.
  • Perform a variety of Circulation duties including checking-in and checking-out of library materials, collection of fines and other fees, and placing reserves.
  • Assist patrons with bibliographic instruction, website and database searching of resources or information. Respond to patrons’ queries pertaining to library matters.
  • Shelving of library materials and basic knowledge in shelf-reading procedures.
  • Collect, sort and distribute/route library materials accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patrons’ library loan records.
  • Assist in the digitisation of user guide materials, prepare reports and compile statistics as assigned.
  • Process document delivery and inter-library loan requests from Regional Centre libraries.
  • Ensure all Library facilities and equipments are in proper order at all times.
  • Ensure that patrons of the Library adhere to the University and Library rules and regulations.

Requirements:

  • STPM/SPM or its equivalent with at least 2-years administrative working experience.
  • Good command of spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia. Having knowledge in Mandarin will be an added advantage.

Non-Academic Position
 

1) Finance Director (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and monitor all financial activities of the institution and all its subsidiaries (the Group).
  • Responsible for the financial and accounting duties of the Group including treasury, banking, taxation, financial planning, audit and risk management.
  • Manage the Group cash flow.
  • Direct and manage the preparation of the Group’s annual budget, business plan analysis, capital expenditure plan and analytical information for the Management and Board of Directors.
  • Prepare and present financial performance of the Group and address issues pertaining to financial matters and analytical needs of the various Boards and sub-committees.
  • Review and monitor monthly management accounts and reports on the Group financial performance within the stipulated timelines.
  • Oversee all accounting work and set up internal and external audits to ensure accuracy of information.
  • Use data analysis to strategically forecast financial trends and advise the Management team on solid financial decision making for short/mid/long term growth.
  • Establish or improvise internal work processes for financial department and monitor their progress.
  • Develop, maintain and ensure adequate internal financial and operational controls for the Group are installed.
  • Provide group consolidation for management reporting, budgeting and strategic financial planning.
  • Ensure all assets of the Group are fully accounted for including documentation required to support the ownership and maintenance of these assets.
  • Stay abreast of current market trends and patterns.
  • Have a clear understanding of the current laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Establish and maintain a mutually beneficial relationship with bankers, auditors, tax and other relevant government bodies.
  • Ensure succession plan is in place for all key staff.

Requirements:

  • A qualified accountant.
  • 10 years experience in a senior finance position.
  • Sound knowledge of ERP system.
  • The ability to innovate and execute out-of-the-box initiatives would be an added advantage.

Responsibilities:

  •  Focus is on the delivery of application system solutions to meet both business/operational needs of university.
  • Requirement Definition: Participate in requirements definition at the program, process and system levels. Transform requirements into system, process and program designs. Requirements may be for custom development or adaptation of third party or packaged application software.
  • Design: Design new programs and integrate processes. Design may be custom or involve adaptation of or integration to third party packaged applications software. Design activities may involve assessing package software and evaluating configuration options of the application against university’s requirement.
  • Quality Management: Ensure the quality of developed and delivered IT capabilities. Coordinate and execute systems testing. Ensure proper change control procedures are followed. Evaluate system integration impacts beyond the scope of specified change.
  • Maintenance, Enhancement and Support: Provide support as necessary to existing suite of applications within a functional area. Solve software problems in a timely fashion. Provide support to user on technical and process.


Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's degree in computer related field or equivalent with emphasis in software engineering.
  • Preferably with few years relevant experience with strong proficiency in ASP.Net, SQL, Stored Procedure, HTML, JavaScript and Web Services.
  • Experience with multi-tier application, database & web development systems integration.
  • Knowledge on mobile application development is an added advantage.
