Studying through the Open Distance Learning mode requires great commitment.
Once you are enrolled in a course, you will need to complete assignments and
examinations according to a specific schedule.
If you are a working adult, you will find it helpful to get the support of
your employer and your family. Their support will keep you motivated.
Fortunately, Wawasan Open University is committed to supporting you as well.
You will be supported with a range of resources to guide and facilitate the
learning process.
You will have access to academic advisory services and counselling. You will
also be provided with comprehensive and high quality course materials that
meet all your needs.
We have also set up a digital library, where you can gain access to a large,
organised repository of information at any time, night or day.
Our Learning Management Systems (LMS) will enable you to use interactive
features such as bulletin boards, video conferencing, and on-line discussion
forums. These systems will guide you through all stages of your learning
cycle, organise your course, and keep track of your records and progress.
We also make full use of electronic communications - email, telephone,
radio, audio and video facilities, and television - to support you in the
learning process. This will add an interactive element to your learning
process, which will be reinforced through a variety of practical and
interactive exercises.
You will exercise control over your learning experience, but you will not be
alone. You will have the opportunity to engage in online collaborative
learning with your peers.
Qualified tutors will assist you during highly supportive and
learner-centred tutorial sessions. These sessions will be held during
weekends at our strategically located regional centres, which will also
provide administrative as well as academic support to you. Tutors will also
assist you through WawasanLearn e-forum.
WawasanLearn
Our course material is the main vehicle for you to acquire knowledge and
skills in the subjects you have registered for. In addition to face-to-face
tutorials, we have a Learner Management System known as WawasanLearn,
an on-line system to enhance your learning from a distance.
WawasanLearn has web components such as templates for content pages,
discussion forums, quizzes and exercises to engage you as you practice with
the course material, acquire new material and collaborate with your tutor
and fellow students. With WawasanLearn, we can deliver learning
content and resources to you and provide a seamless always-on access to
tutors and other learners for you to “meet” and interact with each other.
WawasanLearn includes access control, provision of e-learning content,
communication tools and administration of user groups.
