Programme Structure - Undergraduate Programmes

For the award of a Bachelor's degree, you will have to complete 23-26 courses depending on your chosen degree programme for a total of 120 credit hours and achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.0. However you may be required to enrol for foundation courses at the start of your degree programme to equip you with basic competencies as well as offer an opportunity to refresh your knowledge. In this connection, the total credit hours of your study may range from 120 to 126.

Each level provides you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to move on to the next stage, gradually increasing your knowledge of your chosen courses. Therefore, we highly recommend that you initially enrol for lower-level courses to ensure a smooth progression.

You will accumulate the credit hours required by taking courses from the following components:

  • Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (LAN) courses
Learners furthering their education in any Private Higher Educational Institution (PHEI) in Malaysia have to complete these courses as prescribed in the PHEI Act 1996.

  • University courses
These are the entry-level courses for learners wishing to study for a degree. If you have no previous experience of study at any higher education level or no knowledge of the courses covered in the degree programme of your choice, these courses will provide you with the foundation and basic learning skills.

  • Basic Major/General Education Courses, Core Major Courses, Elective/Core Elective Courses
Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (Hons) consists of basic major/general education courses and elective courses. Basic major/general education courses form the basis for courses at a higher level and complement the curriculum of the entire programme of study. The completion of 50 credits of elective courses from at least any two clusters/disciplines is part of the requirements of the programme.

Bachelor of Business (Hons) programmes consist only of basic major and core major courses. Basic major courses form the basis for courses at a higher level and complement the curriculum of the entire programe of study. Core major courses reflect the specialisation in an academic discipline.

Bachelor of Technology (Hons) programmes consist of basic major, core major and core elective courses. Basic major courses form the basis for higher level courses that you would be taking later on. Core major courses reflect the specialisation relevant to the academic discipline. The core elective courses are usually selected from a prescribed list.

Some of these courses may have other courses as advisory prerequisite(s). The latter courses are courses that you are advised to take first in order to gain some required prior knowledge before pursuing a particular course.

Programme duration

You are advised to spend at least five (5) years of study to be eligible for a degree award. There is no maximum period to complete your programme of study. However, for programmes that require recognition from professional bodies, prior agreement on the maximum duration of studies must be sought from the appropriate professional bodies. You may enrol for a maximum of 15 credit hours or 4 courses whichever is lower in any 18-week semester. Please note that for each credit hour, your study workload required per week would be an average of 2 hours. Therefore, if you were to register for a 5-credit hour course weekly, you would need to allocate an average of 10 hours per week for study.

Programme Structure - Postgraduate  Programmes

The structure of the Master's degree will consist of the following course components:

  • Core Compulsory Courses
The Core Compulsory Courses in the CeMBA/CeMPA programme are designed to give learners a broad-based foundation of key management areas and expose them through a blend of conceptual knowledge and case-based applications to both theoretical foundations and practical applications in each subject area.

  • Elective Courses
The Elective Courses in this programme are designed to enable learners to select courses of their own preference after they have been exposed to the Core Compulsory Courses. A total of six (6) electives have been made available to enable a fair degree of choice to learners, who are required to take 3 electives only.

  • Project/Case Study
The Project course is expected to be taken towards the end of the programme with the objective of enabling learners to take up an independent study to apply the knowledge of concepts learnt in the programme to a specific area of interest and contribute to the available body of knowledge of management practices in Malaysia. Learners are required to produce a dissertation based on their proposed topic of study.

Programme duration

The minimum duration of the programme is 2 ½ years or 5 semesters. You can choose the duration of your programme by pacing your studies as per your own worklife commitment. As of now, there is no maximum duration defined for the programme.
