Programme structure
For the award of a Bachelor’s degree, you will have to complete at least 34 courses  for a total of 102 credit hours and achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.0. However, you may be required to enrol for foundation courses at the start of your degree programme to equip you with basic competencies as well as offer an opportunity to refresh your knowledge. In this connection, the total credit hours of your study may range from 102 to 108.

Each level provides you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to move on to the next stage, gradually increasing your knowledge of your chosen subjects. Therefore, we highly recommend that you initially enrol for Lower level courses to ensure a smooth progression.

You will accumulate the credit hours required by taking courses from the following components:

  • Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (LAN) courses
Students furthering their education in any Private Higher Educational Institution (PHEI) in Malaysia have to complete these courses prescribed in the PHEI Act 1996.
  • University courses
These are the entry-level courses for students wishing to study for a degree. If you have no previous experience of study at any higher education level, or no knowledge of the courses covered in the degree programme of your choice, these courses will provide you with the foundation and basic learning skills.
  • Basic and Core Major courses
These are the core courses for the programme. Basic Major courses form the basis for courses at a higher level and complement the curriculum of the entire programme of study. Core Major courses reflect the specialisation or expertise in an academic discipline.

Both of these courses can have prerequisites, courses that you need to have before pursuing a particular course. A prerequisite prevents you from taking courses in which you are unlikely to succeed without proper prior knowledge.

  • Elective Courses
These courses are not bound to any degree programme and are usually selected to fulfil the credit hours for graduation. These courses broaden and diversify the perspective of your degree.
Programme duration

You may require up to five years of ten semesters to complete all your requirements for a degree programme. There is no maximum period to complete your programme of study. However, for programmes requiring recognition from professional bodies, prior agreement has to be sought from the professional bodies to determine the maximum period of study. You may enrol for a maximum of four courses (or 12 credit hours) in an 18-week semester. Please note that to study for a course with 3 credit hours in a semester, your study workload required per week would be an average of 6-7 hours.
