A nationalistic revolution and a whirlwind romance in the volatile era of the 1900s are potent elements of
Road to Dawn. The culturally rich movie is centered on the personal life of Dr Sun Yat Sen and his attempts to raise funds for the Guangzhou Uprising (1910).
What is even more exciting is the fact that the China-produced film was shot entirely in our own backyard, amongst Penang’s heritage buildings and
scenery! One famous scene captures the secret meeting (Binen) that took place
at 120 Armenian Street, that is, Dr Sun’s Penang base.
The star-studded cast include Taiwanese actor Winston Chao as Dr Sun, China’s well-known actress Wu Yue as Dr Sun’s wife, and Angelica Lee Sin Je,
a native of Alor Setar, playing a nyonya who supports Dr Sun’s work.
The film premiered at the Great Hall in Beijing, China, on 29 June
2007 and is scheduled to hit Malaysian soil by mid-July.
