WOU-DISTED Family Day at Penang Youth Park

Looming clouds did not deter some 200 staff and students of Wawasan Open University and DISTED College along with family members from turning up for the joint Family Day at the Penang Youth Park today.

The event themed ‘Superheroes’ organised by WOU this year saw an exciting change as it was held for the very first time outside the premises of both institutions. The Youth Park lent a festive, soothing atmosphere to the whole gathering.

Quite a number were donning t-shirts of their favourite superhero characters. In fact, the entire team from WOU’s Educational Technology & Publishing unit came dressed in black t-shirts of Captain America, while others showed off the ‘S’ of Superman, as well as the recognisable logos of Spiderman, Batman and Catwoman.

The event started with a zumba workout session. Among those seen gamely trying to keep in step with the instructor were Vice Chancellor Prof Dato’ Dr Ho Sinn Chye and Chief Operating Officer Yeong Sik Kheong.

Prof Ho and Paul Seah, Head of DISTED’s Centre for Continuing Professional Development, launched the event by each releasing a confetti-filled cylinder which spewed confetti onto the stage.

Next came the colouring contest participated by about 20 children aged 6 to 12 years, while others divided themselves into 10 groups to take part in the games.
