WOU engages the services of KMP International

Wawasan Open University (WOU) has entered into a formal partnership with Metro Prima International College (KMP International) to promote its higher education opportunities to the working adults in the Klang Valley.

The two educational institutions sealed their collaboration with the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) at the college premises in Kepong today. WOU was represented by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Wong Tat Meng while the founder of KMP International, Dato’ Ooi Saw Choo, signed on behalf of the private college.

Under the MoA, WOU appoints KMP International as a strategic academic partner to assist the Kuala Lumpur Regional Office (KLRO) in reaching out to the working adults in Kepong and the Klang Valley. The college will also support the university in providing counselling and other learner support services to prospective and continuing students from amongst the adult workforce there.

In his remarks at the signing ceremony, Prof Wong said that WOU is happy to be associated with KMP International as both share the vision of promoting lifelong learning among Malaysians.

He stated that the pursuit of tertiary qualifications is not limited to the “elite few” these days as “the advances and empowering capabilities of information and communication technologies have enabled higher education to be delivered to the doorsteps, or rather notebooks and computer terminals, of the working adults”.

Prof Wong also mentioned the “coming of age” of the university with its upcoming convocation. He stressed that WOU has built a solid reputation in Malaysia and in Asia as a provider of quality higher education via open distance learning, adding, “Our rigorous quality assurance system has gained the respect and admiration of even some of the older and more established mega open universities in the region.”

The MoA signing ceremony was attended by KLRO director Kuppusamy Chellappan, Bandar Utama Regional Support Office assistant manager Janet Khaw, Corporate Communications manager Lim Yao-han, and some 30 staff and students of KMP International.

Besides KMP International, KLRO is also supported by East West College, Seremban to help promote WOU’s current and future programmes to the population in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka. The MoA between the two parties was signed earlier in June.
