(17-18 January 2009)
The student orientation for the fifth semester was held simultaneously in Penang, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru on January 18th, and a day earlier in Kota Bharu.
The students received goodie bags of WOU t-shirts, pens, bookmarks and orientation CDs upon registration for orientation.
The regional office directors welcomed the new students and briefed them on the rules and regulations. The students across the country were treated to a pre-recorded speech by Vice Chancellor Tan Sri Emeritus Professor Gajaraj Dhanarajan projected on the big screen.
This was followed by the recital of the Student Oath led by a new student at the respective orientation sessions organised by the regional offices.
The deans of the academic schools represented WOU in presenting the university’s open distance learning model to the students and in highlighting the two Master’s programmes. The students were also briefed on the inaugural Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (Honours) programme offered by the School of Foundation and Liberal Studies.
Students later received a hands-on learning on WOU’s IT facilities, the WawasanLearn portal, online submissions of assignments and about the digital library access, before the orientation ended at about 4.30pm.
