Q : What is the vision and mission of Wawasan Open?
A : Vision
The vision of Wawasan Open is to be a vibrant learning community that inspires learning, supports innovation and nurtures all-round personal growth.
Mission
Wawasan Open commits to the expansion of opportunities in higher education and to teaching excellence aimed at increasing the level of knowledge and scholarship among all Malaysians.
Q : What is the role of the IAB?
A : The IAB is established to:
  • advise the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Wawasan Open on all aspects of the University’s development.
  • keep the VC informed on international trends in educational innovations and delivery.
  • assist Wawasan Open in building its international academic network.
  • support Wawasan Open in building its international profile as a centre for academic excellence.

Q : Who is the Chancellor of WOU?
A : WOU’s founding Chancellor is YABhg Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Dr Lim Chong Eu.

Q : Where is the main campus / headquarters?
A : We are presently located at  54, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, 10050 Penang, comprising a purpose-built 12-storey building and Homestead that houses the Chancellery.

Q : Why is Wawasan Open unique compared to others?
A : Wawasan Open is unique because it offers accessible, affordable and flexible programmes in line with the objective of providing education for all.
Q : Why are the programmes / courses offered at Wawasan Open of high quality?
A : All programmes / courses are of high quality as they are subjected to both internal and external scrutiny.

Internally quality assurance will be monitored by:
  • Departmental Committees
  • Boards of Academic Schools
  • Senate
  • Board of Management
  • International Advisory Board, and
  • Council

External quality assurance is supervised by:

  • An external academic peer review group (Advisory Peer Group, APG) to review and advise on the curriculum.
  • An external course assessor system to assess the relevance, appropriateness, depth and treatment of courses.
  • An external examiner system to ensure parity of standards.
  • A periodic external institutional review system to review the entire organisation for its effectiveness and efficiency.
Q : What will the Quality Assurance (QA) emphasise on?
A : The QA system will focus on five main domains in line with the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) guidelines formerly known as Lembaga Akreditasi Negara, LAN. These are:
  • Programme Planning
  • Course design, development and production
  • Course delivery
  • Student assessment and awards, and
  • Staff development
