Doctor of Business Administration
Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is the pinnacle of management education. This doctoral degree is as academically rigorous as a PhD, but is designed for experienced professional managers and brings together academic theories and concepts, with business and management practices.
WOU’s DBA has been designed to provide candidates the advance knowledge, conceptual and strategic skills that would be expected of corporate leaders to lead the robust service and manufacturing sectors in Malaysia. The DBA will enable the learners to capitalise on their respective career and practical experiences, the inventory skills set and other significant learning support in order to achieve the programme outcomes which are personal, professional and organisational.
Apart from the coursework comprising core areas in business and management, the other significant part the DBA work will be in the form of a dissertation written under the guidance of a supervisor. The dissertation must, in the opinion of the examiners, be a substantial original contribution to the knowledge or understanding of any field through the discovery of new facts, the formulation of theories or the innovative reinterpretation of known data and established ideas. It must also demonstrate the capacity to conceive, design, conduct, interpret and write scientific independent research.
WOU’s DBA has been designed to develop highly skilled, critical thinking and practitioner-scholar leaders who can conceptualise, develop, and conduct research and consultancy using the core theories, concepts and tools in business and management. The candidates should be able to synthesis and apply the domains and findings of their research and consultancy initiatives to address corporate and social issues. At the DBA level, the learners are expected to uncover new knowledge either by the discovery of new facts, the formulation of theories or the innovative reinterpretation of known data and established ideas.
Programme Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the programme, students would be able to:
Demonstrate continuing and advanced knowledge and comprehension of business administration above that of the Master degree with capabilities to develop or innovate ideas, specifically in the context of research and consultancy.
Demonstrate competencies to generate, design, implement and adopt the integral part of research and consultancy processes in corporate areas business administration in a scientific manner.
Integrate practitioner-scholar knowledge and skills in specialised areas to manage complex matters and novel situations in multi-disciplinary context.
Apply business models and concepts by explaining and advancing solutions to personal, organisational and social issues within self, socio-cultural and international diversity.
Evaluate and make decisions even in situations with limited information by considering social responsibilities and ethics outlined by professional bodies in business and management.
Demonstrate superior leadership qualities through communicating and disseminating information, ideas, problems and solution effectively to the general public and professional community.
A Master's degree from Wawasan Open University or any other institutions of higher learning or any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate
