Dean - School of Foundation and Liberal Studies (Based in Main Campus, Penang)

With the impending retirement of the incumbent Deans for School of Business & Administration and School of Foundation & Liberal Studies, Wawasan Open University is looking for dynamic and innovative professorial level academics to provide administrative and academic leadership for the further development of the Schools. The prospective candidates should have excellent records of teaching, research and programme development at institutions of higher learning. He/she must possess excellent networking skills as well as acumen and ability in developing innovative programmes at the diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels to meet market demand in the relevant discipline areas. The appointees will be reporting to the Vice-Chancellor via the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic)

Responsibilities

  • To contribute to the development of the University policies in areas affecting education and research.
  • To provide leadership and strategic direction in the planning and decision making processes to develop, enhance and promote existing and new programmes.
  • To develop a network of partner institutions from government, industry and business organizations for the purpose of delivering collaborative diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes.
  • To work with the Chancellery, Registry and other Schools to ensure consistency of quality in curriculum development and the conduct of diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate education.
  •  To develop and promote a service oriented administration within the School to support its students in their academic pursuits.
  • To mentor and provide the necessary guidance to academic staff of the School to enhance their course development and delivery skills as well as to promote and facilitate research activities.
  • To provide academic advice to academic staff and students on issues related to programmes or courses.

Requirements

  • Applicants should possess a PhD degree in a related field and have extensive academic and administrative experience at senior levels in higher education.
  • Experience in open and distance education would be an added advantage as would a high level of oral and written competence in English and Bahasa Malaysia*
