Our vibrant learning community does not stand in isolation. It is part of a dynamic, worldwide open distance learning (ODL) community.

Working closely with learning experts from around the world and with organisations such as the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre of Asia (CEMCA), Wawasan Open’s academic and management staff have developed innovative learner-centred programmes. In collaboration with these experts, we deliberate on every aspect of planning and managing an open distance learning university.

We are also supported by an International Advisory Board made up of renowned open learning experts from around the world. These experts provide insights and advice to ensure that the quality of our programmes conforms to the highest international standards.

The Board is currently made up of the following founding members:

Prof Dr Abdul W Khan
Assistant Director-General of UNESCO in Paris; former Vice Chancellor of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), India; former Director of Communications and Broadcasting Technology at the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in Vancouver, Canada.

Shona Butterfield
Member of the Tertiary Education Commission of New Zealand; Member of the Board of Governors of the COL; former Chief Executive Officer of the Open Polytechnic, New Zealand.

Dr Paul Cappon
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Council on Learning; former Executive Director of the Council of Ministers of Education in Canada.

Prof Brenda Gourley
Vice Chancellor, Open University in the United Kingdom; former Vice Chancellor of the University of Natal, South Africa.

John Yip
Former Director General of Education in Singapore; recently retired as Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), where he also served as Director of the Open University Degree Programme.
