Wawasan Open University has laid down a comprehensive governance and organisational structure to ensure that it achieves its goal of excellence in all areas.

At the apex of Wawasan Open’s organisational structure is the Council, the executive body responsible for the overall management of the institution. The chair and members of the Council are appointed by the Board of Directors of Wawasan Education Foundation, the main funding agency for Wawasan Open.

The Council includes representatives from the government or public sector, civic and community organisations, commerce and industry, and the academic community. These representatives provide invaluable advice and information on how the organisation can best serve the educational needs of the larger community and expand opportunities for higher learning for all.

The Senate, on the other hand, is the academic authority of the university. It oversees the university's academic programme, its teaching and research, the conduct of examinations and the degrees and courses of study offered.

The Vice Chancellor, in turn, is supported by the Senate (on academic matters), an Executive Committee, and a Management Board.

An International Advisory Board provides valuable support to the Vice Chancellor on the best international practices and the latest developments in open learning.
