Does WOU offer study grants to its students?

Yes. The study grant is meant to provide an incentive for new potential students who want to further their studies and improve personal and
professional opportunities but find themselves under difficult financial circumstances for one reason or another.

 

 
What is the quantum / amount of the study grant to be awarded?

This grant is to subsidise tuition fees only (up to a maximum of RM600 or the equivalent of tuition fee to one course whichever is lower for
bachelor’s degree courses, Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate courses) OR RM500 for Headstart programme.

Tuition fees for course(s) added or dropped AFTER submission of the application form will not qualify to be subsidised by the study grant. The University also
reserves the right to provide grant of a different quantum depending on its assessment of an applicant’s academic preparedness.

 

 
Who can apply for the study grant?

• Malaysian Citizens & NEW STUDENTS admitted to Wawasan Open University bachelor’s degree courses, Graduate Diploma OR Graduate Certificate courses OR the Headstart programme.
• Minimum education qualification of SPM or equivalent with a minimum PASS of Grade 7 in English Language.
• Students with prior degree qualification(s) are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply.
• If single, Personal Basic Income of NOT MORE than RM3,000 per month or RM36,000 per annum.
• If married, Family Basic Income of NOT MORE than RM4,000 per month or RM48,000 per annum.
• Below 55 years old.
• Headstart students who have received study grant and progressing to the undergraduate programme are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply.
• Provide clear proof and evidence to support education qualification, income declaration or unemployment declaration.

 

 
What are the terms and conditions of this study grant?

The terms and conditions are:

  • The study grant is offered to NEW STUDENTS only.
  • This grant is to subsidise tuition fees only (up to a maximum of RM600 or the equivalent of tuition fee to one course whichever is lower for bachelor’s degree courses, Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate courses) OR RM500 for Headstart programme. Tuition fees for course(s) added or dropped AFTER submission of the application form will not qualify to be subsidised by the study grant. The University reserves the right to provide grants of a different quantum depending on its assessment of an applicant’s academic preparedness.
  •  The Processing & Administration fee and the Resource & Services fee must be borne by the applicant.
  •  Study grants awarded but not used for the semester cannot be retained by the student and shall therefore be deemed to be forfeited.
  •  This study grant is a “one-time” financial assistance valid for the semester in which it is offered and it is not renewable for subsequent semesters.
  • Study grants are awarded in accordance to the established criteria and the decision of the Award Committee is FINAL.
  • Study grant is neither transferable nor exchangeable for cash.
  • Study grants awarded are subject to the availability of funds.
  • The University reserves the right to revoke the award if the student fails to comply with the Rules and Regulations of the University or if falsified information is found to be furnished by the applicant to manipulate the outcome of the grant.
  • Members of the Selection Committee and Award Committee may be required to sign a disclosure form on relationships to applicants and are required to disclose such information when they are related to the applicant.
  • The Award Committee reserves the right to offer study grants for full or part of the tuition fees as it deem appropriate.
  • Fulfillment of minimum requirements DOES NOT GUARANTEE successful award of the WEF Study Grant. Award is based on a first come first serve basis.
 

 
Where can we obtain the study grant application form?

The forms are available at all Wawasan Open University’s regional offices or can be downloaded from the University’s website at www.wou.edu.my

 

 
When is the deadline for study grant application?

Closing date for applications is 17 June 2012 and late applications shall not be entertained.

 

 
Where do we submit the completed application forms?

Completed forms and its supporting documents must be submitted to Wawasan Open University’s regional office where you have enrolled.

 

 
When will we be informed of the study grant application results?

Results of the WEF Study Grant applications are scheduled to be announced by 6 July 2012. Please contact Wawasan Open University’s regional office where you have enrolled for the result of your application.
