Tham Choy Yoong studied engineering at the University of Malaya, earned a Masters with distinction from Brunel University London and the PhD from the University of Wales Swansea. He spent 10 years working in various capacities in industry including several years in the public sector, and another 14½ years as a founding partner of a consulting engineers’ firm. He worked as a senior research assistant at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Swansea, and spent 3½ years doing postdoctoral research in astrophysics with the Department of Physics, University of Cambridge.
Tham is a Registered Professional Engineer in two fields (Electrical, Mechanical) and a Chartered Engineer of the UK Engineering Council. He is a certified competent electrical engineer by the Energy Commission of Malaysia and a certified steam engineer by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health.
