Biodata: |
Dr Chan’s area of expertise is in the discipline of Project
Management. He pursued postgraduate studies at Universiti Sains
Malaysia and obtained his MSc in Project Management and PhD in
Project Management in 2002 and 2011 respectively. He is a Fellow
of the Institute of Construction Management (UK), a member of
the Project Management Institute (USA), the Society of
Construction Law (UK), the Institution of British Engineers
(UK), the American Institute of Engineers (USA), the American
Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (USA), the
Association of Cost Engineers (UK) and the Chartered Institution
of Civil Engineering Surveyors (UK).
He is accredited as a Certified Construction Project Manager
(CCPM) by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB)
of Malaysia in compliance with the National Competency
Standards (NCS) for Construction Project Manager and as a
Certified International Project Manager (CIPM) by the Board
of Standards of the American Academy of Project Management (AAPM).
He is appointed as an Honorary Advisor of the AAPM Global
Advisory Board and Council which consists of project
management professionals and academicians from universities
in the US, Europe and Asia. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of
Graduate Division of the American Academy of Project
Management.
In 2007, he joined the Project Management Office (PMO) of
China Harbour Engineering Co. Ltd.’s subsidiary company,
CHEC Construction Sdn. Bhd., the main contractor for Package
1 of the RM4.5 billion Second Penang Bridge project.
He has worked closely with CHEC’s administrative,
commercial, construction and technical departments in
managing and coordinating the intricate work processes of
the bridge project. Prior to joining CHEC, he has worked for
more than 25 years in the construction industry principally
with chartered civil and structural engineering, chartered
quantity surveying and project management consulting firms
and was involved in numerous commercial, industrial,
mixed-housing development and high-rise condominium
projects.

Course Development Experience: |
As a part-time lecturer with the School of Housing, Building and
Planning, USM from 2002 to 2004, he has developed course
materials, conducted lectures, tutorials, assigned and assessed
course assignments for the BSc (Hons) in Construction Management
course modules. In June 2011, he joined the School of Science
and Technology (SST) WOU as a senior lecturer and course
coordinator. He is currently the course coordinator for the
following B.Tech (Hons) in Construction Management and MBA in
Construction Management course modules:

Research Interest: |
Dr Chan’s areas of research interest are in the disciplines of
Project Management, Construction Management, Construction Law,
Cost Engineering and Quantity Surveying Practice. He has
published various research articles and papers in professional
and academic journals. |
